Dennis O’Neill, M.D., FCAP - President

Dr. Dennis O’Neill is the founder of Eastern Connecticut Pathology Consultants and its president since 1993. Board-certified and re-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty interest in Cardiac and Autopsy pathology, he received his undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University and his medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School, completing his residency at Hartford Hospital. He has served in several leadership positions, including the President of the Connecticut Society of Pathologists, Chair of the Connecticut Medical Examining Board and President of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network Medical Staff and currently serves as the Chair of the ECHN Board of Trustees. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and past Chair of its Membership Committee. His professional interests include forensic and cardiac pathology and physician leadership in complex healthcare systems.

Thomas Buck, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Thomas Buck is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematology by the American Board of Pathology.  He received his undergraduate degree at Rutgers College and his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School, completing his residency and fellowship training at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School.  Prior to entering medicine, Dr. Buck worked in the non-medical business world.  His current interests include the application of new technologies to enhance pathology laboratory workflow (such as digital pathology) and the development of systems to optimize communication among pathologists, physicians and patients.

Michele Conlon, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Michele Conlon is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematology by the American Board of Pathology.  She received her undergraduate and medical  degrees from the University of Connecticut, completing her residency and fellowship at Hartford Hospital. Dr. Conlon has held several leadership positions, including President of the Connecticut Society of Pathologists and President of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network Medical Staff.  She currently serves as a member of the ECHN Board of Trustees. She is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists. Her professional interests include hematopathology, transfusion medicine and medical staff and corporate governance policies.

Angela Fields, M.D., Ph.D, FCAP

Susan Gobel, M.D., Ph.D, FCAP

Dr. Susan Gobel is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty certification in cytopathology and blood banking. Susan received her undergraduate, medical school and residency training in pathology at Yale after receiving a PhD in physics from University of California, Berkeley. She serves as medical director for a clinical pathology laboratory in Wallingford and a GI pathology laboratory in Hamden. Prior to joining Eastern Connecticut Pathology Consultants, she worked at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the West Haven VA Hospital and Midstate Medical Center.

Michael Hitchcock, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Michael Hitchcock is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty fellowship training in Hematopathology. He received his Bachelors of Science from Oklahoma Panhandle State University and his Masters of Science from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, where he taught for four years before embarking on a medical career. He received his medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Hitchcock is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. His professional interests include hematopathology, flow cytometry, quality assurance, and education.

Bela Horvath, M.D., Ph.D., FCAP

Dr. Bela Horvath is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty fellowship training in Gastrointestinal Pathology. Bela received his medical and doctorate degrees from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, and completed his residency and GI fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital, respectively. Bela has a substantial background in research and medical teaching and is the recipient of several competitive research and travel grants. He held teaching positions at Semmelweis University and research appointments at the University of Heidelberg and the National Institutes of Health and has authored numerous research and clinical publications. Dr. Horvath is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society. His professional interests include gastrointestinal and genitourinary pathology, blood management and medical microbiology.

Devbala Patel, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Devbala Patel is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology.  She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Bombay, completing her residency at the University of Texas with fellowships at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Hartford Hospital.  She is the Chair of Eastern Connecticut Health Network’s Institutional Review Committee and has been instrumental in the development of many clinical research programs with ECHN’s medical staff.  She is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the American Society of Cytopathology. Her professional interests include gastrointestinal pathology, medical microbiology and issues related to patient safety in biomedical research.

Elizabeth Marie Rinehart, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Elizabeth Marie Rinehart, M.D. is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and board-eligible in hematopathology. She received her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City and completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and fellowship training in gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreaticobiliary pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts where she served as the Chief Resident in Anatomic Pathology. She was actively involved in curriculum development, course design, and teaching at Harvard Medical School and remains active in state, local, and national medical and pathology organizations. She currently serves as a member of the College of American Pathology Board of Governors (ex-officio), and as the immediate past Chair of the CAP Residents Forum Executive Committee (RFEC) where she led efforts to influence policy affecting residents around the country. Liz has participated in the CAP Engaged Leadership Academy and is now a member of the Engaged Leadership Network, a group of pathologists committed to raising the visibility of pathology. She was recently included on The Pathologist magazine’s 2016 Power List of inspiring leaders, researchers, and educators in pathology.

Robert A. Schwartz, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Robert A. Schwartz is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty fellowships in Breast Pathology and Surgical Pathology.  He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from the University of Connecticut Medical School, completing his residency and fellowship training at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School.  He currently serves as the Vice-chair of the Department of Pathology, Chair of the ECHN Credentials Committee, and is a Trustee of the ECHN Foundation.  He is a current member of the Immunohistochemistry Committee of the College of American Pathologists, and has been instrumental in developing and expanding immunohistochemistry capability in our laboratories.  His academic interests include breast and genitourinary pathology, immunohistochemistry and digital pathology.

Monica Srodon, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Monica Srodon is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty training in Gynecologic Pathology and Cytopathology.  She received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and her medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School, completing her residency and fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.  She currently serves as the Chair of the Blood Utilization Committee and Molecular Testing Committee; Co-Chair of the Cancer Committee, and Quality Coordinator of the Cancer Registry.  Dr. Srodon has been instrumental in enhancing gynecologic laboratory services and in developing the gynecologic pathology Tumor Board.  She is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the American Society of Cytopathology and the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists. Her professional interests include gynecologic pathology, cytopathology and development of comprehensive cancer programs.

Anshu Trivedi, M.D., FCAP

Dr. Anshu Trivedi is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty interest in Liver and Gastrointestinal Pathology. She graduated from NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, India. Subsequently she trained in anatomic pathology as a specialist registrar at London Deanery, London, UK from 2005-2008. She moved to the U.S. in 2009 and completed her pathology residency at Hartford Hospital with a liver and gastrointestinal pathology fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. Anshu worked as a consultant pathologist at Hartford Hospital before joining ECPC in February 2017.

Rebecca DiIorio, P.A., ASCP

Rebecca DiIorio is certified as a Pathology Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.  She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Connecticut, completing her training at Quinnipiac University.  She worked as a pathology assistant at Yale - New Haven Hospital before joining our group.  Rebecca is an integral member of our team - having a leadership role in the gross and histology laboratories and assisting with our laboratory IT and administrative responsibilities.

Danielle Light, P.A., ASCP

Danielle Light is certified as a Pathology Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.  She received her undergraduate degree at Central Connecticut State University, completing her training at Quinnipiac University.  She is a recent (and welcome) addition to our team.
